Religious Education

The philosophy of our religious education program is a simple one. We view ourselves as being directly under the mission statement of Our Lady of Victory parish: “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. The second is like it. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 22:37 & 28:19).  We believe this is done in our Parish School of Religion program in three main ways: worship, fellowship, and family.

2020-2021 will be a different year for us all, with the protocols and restrictions surrounding the current Pandemic and COVID-19.  In your child’s virtural classroom, they will learn about who God is, what God does, and that God has a plan for their lives. This knowledge is strengthened by the love we practice in worship at Mass, even when we do so virtually. The Mass is the source and summit of our faith! It is where we encounter Jesus. PSR should be a stepping stone to active participation in weekly worship at Our Lady of Victory.

Fellowship is built and sustained by sharing a common life. We encourage your children and yourselves to engage in this community as best and safely as you are able to this year! Get to know your children’s catechists, reach out to other parents. Faith is best strengthened when shared; we cannot love the neighbor we do not know. Our hope is that PSR will be the jumping off point for lifelong friendships, built on seeking the Lord.

The family is what the Magisterium calls “the domestic Church”. This signals to us the extreme importance that the Catholic faith puts on the family, and how vital the family is to community. The family is the disciple maker. The Parish School of Religion is meant to be a support beam for the faith formation taking already place in the family. Our main goal as a program is to encourage and empower you as a family to seek after Christ. We invite you to talk to your child about what they are learning in their Parish School of Religion virtual classrooms, in addition to the faith formation already taking place at home.  There are many resources that we will work to make available to you this year, to help you in this important work.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. May God bless each of you and your families, as we journey together into another year!  Below, you will find links to the Letter sent to Parents/Guardians to register for this year; a PDF fillable Registration Form and other important (and fillable) forms you will need.  Again, if you have any questions, please, do not hesitate to contact me, Fr. Mike or Linda Herold at the Parish Center.
